"Why Don't You Just Adopt?"

I love this quote from blogger "The Reign of Ellen":

"It just makes me chuckle har har when people say to infertiles, "Why don't you just adopt?" Like one just needs to get oneself down to the Baby Factory to check out the discount bin. If only they knew the hoops, the paperwork, the home studies, the huge expense (anywhere from $15,000 (domestic) to $40,000 (Russia)), the disappointments, the heartache, the government forms, the legal stresses...You don't accidentally adopt. For many adopters, they've already been through years of infertility crap, only to be faced with the ups and downs of the adoption process. Adoption is a long, difficult process and a lot of people just don't understand that."
