Wednesday night I discovered a tomato-sized lump on the upper abdomen of my dog ... it was firm but not hard and seemed to live between the skin and the muscle wall. I called the vet and got an appointment for Thursday.
We're still waiting for the labratory to confirm it, but the vet believes it is a lipoma... a benign fatty growth (technically called a tumor). Turns out that these are common in older dogs!
Here's an article at PetEducation.com that talks about lipomas.
Knowing is half the battle.
